Play and Creativity

I was reminded last night by one of my friends in a women's group that I belong to that creative work should be fun.  I shouldn't make things that I expect will sell.  I should make things that make my heart sing.  What a great reminder.  Art is all about connection to the creative self.  When we take an idea and run with it, we create a thing of beauty.  The thought wheels need to spin a little, but the whimsical side of ourselves needs to be fully engaged to create that masterpiece - a true work of art.

How often do I take time to explore new avenues of creativity in my work?  I'm often caught up in making enough stuff for the next show, and I know that stifles my creativity.  It's time to explore creating for creating's sake.  Create with wild abandon and see what happens.  This is my challenge to all of you and myself!

Come back here in the weeks to come and see what has happened.  I'm going to try a bunch of new stuff!  I've registered for two classes, one in January and one in February.  The first is on soldering, and the second is on acid free etching.  I can hardly wait!  In the mean time, I've got a book on torch fired enamels that I want to experiment with, and a bunch of new tools to try my hand at rivets...

  2. Great reminder about creating things that make your heart sing! At one time, I had my jewelry in a little shop and I kept making things that I thought would sell in the shop. After six months, I gave up (I did sell some stuff), but my heart was not happy. Now - creating with wild abandon - I'm up for the challenge! Thanks!
