Inspiration and Renewal

I've been all over the internet trying to find new techniques with metal clay. There are several pieces by Celie Fago that inspire me. They have such a wonderful texture. I've yet to come across a how to, but I've learned a bit about water etching metal clay. That seems intriguing. I got inspired to make two rings this morning - not with any new techniques, but with renewed inspiration. Sometimes, it just takes a few days or hours of looking at other people's techniques for the ideas to flow. It's a very happy moment when that happens.

The two photos that follow are of Celie Fago's work. The first one has that texture that I'm really drawn to. Maybe it is created using the water etching technique. I'm not sure. The next one is just very appealing. I love ethnic looking pieces - ones that are down to earth, textural, elemental. I don't really know how to describe it, but this stuff speaks to me.

  1. tammi - you are so right - looking at other's work can be very inspiring - not to copy but to set you off on a new direction. I was at the downtown seattle anthropologie store last saturday and now I'm all excited to splash some paint on window screening to use in a project - I'll let you know how that goes!
