The Faces of the Moon - Cleansing

With the coming of the snow a couple of weeks back came the idea for a year long project.  I decided to make a moon for every moon this year.  The reason for this comes as a question to you.  Do you ever have trouble sleeping during the full moon?  Have you ever wondered why?  Well I do and I want to figure it out.  Some of us are just more sensitive to the energy of the moon.  Did you know that the light is reflected sunlight?  That reflected light is a different wave length than the sun.  I thought that was interesting.   In my research I found a helpful description of the different moons of the year.  According to it, we are in the phase called The Moon of Cleansing.  The following is taken directly from that site and there is a link if you'd like to read more:

The Moon of Cleansing  (20 Jan - 18 Feb)

of exploration. The influence is one of innovation.  Click here to learn more.

Well, before I started out on this project, I scheduled to take a soldering class.  So, in the month of January, and now into February I have ventured on this journey to learn soldering - just as described in the Moon of Cleansing.  After taking the class, I decided to make a bezel.  I had purchased some shell beads recently and decided to create a bezel that would fit around one of those beads.  I didn't know where I was going with it, but around the metaphoric spiral I went.  I added a silver wire that passed through the bead's hole and two holes I drilled through the bezel.  I wasn't really sure what I was going to do with this.  It was really just an experiment.  Now, I'm not one for just making something for nothing.  Things need to be utilitarian if they are going to exist.  Just saying.  So, I decided that this bezel wrapped shell was going to be a pendant.  From the wire that passed through it I added a wire that encircled the lower half of the bezel.  From that I hung some opal beads and some little sterling nugget beads that I taught myself how to make.  That's another story for another day.  But after I got this all done I still wasn't happy.  The pendant needed something else...

A few days later I started thinking about the moon.  After spending a bit of time meditating on it, I decided to create a moon face in polymer clay.  The face was inspired by where I was emotionally in the moment.  This is what I wrote in my journal about the January Moon, or Cleansing Moon as I have come to know it:

I have no eyes and I cannot speak.  What do I know?  I can't see it.  I can't talk about it.  How do I express it?  Where does it come out, from?  Why do I do?  Why am I here?  It always boils down to that question.  Yet, we don't really talk about it, and it eludes us.

Why do I create?  I feel impelled to, yet I find it difficult.  I can't see what I feel and I have a difficult time expressing it.  This month is about seeing - seeing connections and putting voice to them.  It's about growing the connections between all that is known and that which is unknown in an attempt to see the hidden meaning and bringing attention to it, or awareness.

My mind is a jumbled up mess of thoughts like the jumbled up mess of wire in this necklace.  Maybe if I bring this into creation, the connections will become evident.  Rocks, road blocks, barriers are or have been put in my way - probably of my own making.  It's time to peel away the layers, push away the boulders.

Let me know what you think...  And watch for the February Moon...
